Home Tips Thanks to your help, we donated $100,000 to the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA), whose mission is to protect and enhance America’s national parks for present and future generations.
Here are just a few of the many NPCA projects that happened in this past year.
Connecting Urban Youth to the
Chesapeake Water Trails
The NPCA partnered with multiple organizations to help bring nearly 1,000 urban youth to the water trails of Chesapeake to learn about water ecology in a fun and interactive way.
Restoring Wetlands in Indiana
Funds were used for the “Reconnecting Waterways” project, which restored nearly 55 acres of wetlands at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.
Making a Major Everglades Milestone
With the help of several partners, the NPCA was able to complete a one-mile bridge on Tamiami Trail. The bridge was designed to re-establish natural north-south water flow through the greater Everglades ecosystem.
Easy Ways You Can Make a Natural Difference
We invite you to make a natural difference, too. There are many simple ways you can help preserve the beauty of our natural world. Here’s how!
Lawn & Garden
  • Landscape with native and water-tolerant plants, which act as a habitat for wildlife and help to conserve water.
  • Water your plants and lawn in the morning or evening when temperatures are cooler.
  • Set up Rain Barrels to collect rainwater, which can be used to water your plants and lawn.
  • Adjust your lawn mower to a higher mow setting to better shade roots and hold moisture.
In the Home
  • When buying new appliances consider energy-efficient models.
  • Run your dishwasher only when you have a full load.
  • Run your clothes washer only when you have a full load, and make sure to select the cycle size that matches size of the load.
  • Take shorter showers. Use a timer to track your time in the shower.
In your Communities
  • Bring an empty bag while visiting your local park and pick up trash.
  • Contact your local national park and ask how you can get involved in helping to clean up local rivers and lakes.
  • Suggest water conservation and watershed restoration actions in your community.
